Several years ago WB animation briefly flirted with a toon of The Lone Ranger. Anybody remember the live action tv pilot where the ranger had a black hat and a red shirt? I shit you not. It was a attempt to make it like a Smallville type.
This sounds so fucking ridiculous it has to be true.
Well old Ranger Reid was finished.
Before the show aired I heard this was a possibility for series development, so I put this together and stuck it under a few noses at the studio. This was not solicited by WB.
Anybody ever see the old toon show from the 60's?
It's pretty sweet.
I'd love to see an LR animated series--preferably one that would be similar in tone and continuity to the old radio/TV series, but add its own wrinkles.
For a while there, I even had a voice for the Ranger all picked out...the actor John M. Jackson, who used to play Admiral Chegwidden on JAG. He has a deep voice that's the perfect blend of sternness and compassion, and even sounds just a touch like Clayton Moore.
The only thing I wouldn't want to see them do is to Batman up the character. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like Batman as much as the next person, but not every hero needs to be grim and gritty.
Oh, and I did see bits and pieces of that...thing...they showed on the WB. Words fail me. Even The Legend Of The Lone Ranger, for all its bad reputation, had more respect for the mythology! (Which is also more than I can say for the recent one, as much as I adore Armie Hammer.)
but yeah the old show was amazing
Who doesn't like a cute squaw girl though.
The weird thing was he was the lone ranger but he had a side kick
Horse animation for tv would have been very spotty too!
